True North AmeriCorps, based out of the Duluth YMCA, is seeking qualified full- and half-time members for the 2016-2017 academic year to serve in local elementary schools and youth-serving agencies in the Duluth area. Members will tutor children who have been identified as needing more support in either math or reading. Members will also assist in after-school programming.
Be at least 18 years old. Complete a background check. Pass a reading and/or math assessment correlated to the highest grade level served. Have a high school diploma or GED. Be either a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the US. Interest in youth, service, education, and non-profit work. Possess basic computer skills. Self-motivated, able to work independently without daily supervision. Able to present oneself in a highly professional manner and be an ambassador for TNAC and National Service.
AmeriCorps members provide a vital service to our area students and in return are provided an opportunity to build their professional skills and networks while serving their community. Half-time members serve 920 hours in 12 months (about 20 hours a week), and earn a living stipend of approximately $500/month as well as a $2887 education award (to be used for higher education expenses or student loan payments after a year is completed). Full-time members serve 1740 hours in 12 months (about 40 hours a week), and earn a living stipend of approximately $1000/month as well as a $5775 education award (to be used for higher education expenses or student loan payments after a year is completed). Full-time members receive health insurance coverage and childcare assistance. All members receive a YMCA membership during their year of service as well as professional development opportunities.
