The Duluth YMCA is looking for outgoing and dedicated personal trainers to join the Health and Wellness Team. The Personal Trainers at the Y will have hours dedicated to both the Wellness Center experience and one-on-one or group personal trainings.

• Part time personal trainers must commit to at least one wellness center shift per week
• Monitor the Wellness Center as members use the exercise equipment
• Motivate and educate members in leading healthy lifestyles
• Understand the prevention, detection, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, basic emergency procedures, and the legal and professional responsibilities of wellness coaches
• Take initiative to sell the Personal Training during the Wellness Coach shifts and member interactions
• Integrate the mission of the YMCA and follow the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility into the healthy living aspect of job responsibilities
• Take professional initiative to promote personal training, clinics and al wellness related opportunities
• Help maintain a neat, clean and pleasant environment on the wellness floor
• Build relationships with members through exceptional customer skills and enthusiasm

• Design safe and effective 30 minute to 1 hour personal training programs for individual clients, adapting the strength training program to each person’s specific needs and abilities
• Conduct pre and post fitness evaluations
• Instruct members in the strength training principles, training procedures, and exercise techniques
• Teach members the proper and preferred use of all the strength training equipment
• Promote Personal Training through personal example and member interaction
• Attend scheduled Wellness Coach/ Personal Trainer staff meetings and participates in appropriate workshops
• Wellness Coach/ Personal Trainer must abide by YMCA policies, procedures and guidelines
• Personal Trainers are expected to recruit their own clients through member interaction on the floor and by being confident in approaching members in a fitness setting

to change, and seeks opportunities in the change process. Accurately assesses personal feelings, strengths and limitations and how they impact relationships. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.

• Minimum 18 years of age
• College degree related to fitness, exercise physiology or health and wellness preferred
• Nationally Accredited Personal Training Certifications (ACE, AFAA, NETA, NSCF, ACSM, etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to lead an individual/class and motivate others to achieve their fitness goals
• Demonstrated ability working with varying age groups and ability levels
• Must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job

• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of employment
• New Employee Orientation required within 90 days of hire
• 2+ years of personal training experience
• Able to commit to at least one year at the Y

1. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
2. Must be able to lift a minimum of 45 pounds.
