To provide a warm, nurturing, safe, and loving environment where self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected.
To provide developmentally appropriate educational activities to children in the classroom that promote developmental progress for each child.
To maintain friendly communication with parents and other caregivers.
1. To create and offer a program, including curriculum, that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of both individual children and those of the group.
2. To play and interact with children, and to assist them in regulating their emotions and growing socially/emotionally.
3. To treat all children, staff, and families with dignity and respect.
4. To keep consistent daily routines and interactions with children.
5. To gear the program to the needs of the individual child/family, with concern for their interest, special needs and talents, background, and individual style and pace of learning.
6. To interact with the children on their level and to encourage their involvement in activities.
7. To maintain an environment that is safe, orderly, clean, and developmentally stimulating.
8. To treat each child and caregiver with dignity and respect.
9. To know how many children are in your group, where they are at all times and to be able to see and hear each child.
10. To establish and maintain good communications with parents on a daily informal basis and keep them informed of their child’s day and developmental progress.
11. To continually evaluate each child’s progress using Ounce or Work Sampling, and to communicate these observations to the child’s parents/caregivers during formal parent/teacher conferences offered at least twice a year.
12. To identify developmental concerns of individual children and discuss with other professionals and parents when necessary.
13. To model appropriate, positive behavior guidance techniques and develop a cooperating and supportive attitude within the room with staff, children, and families.
14. To direct other staff and volunteers in classroom and keep them informed of regulations and individual plans for children.
15. To follow Little Treasures’ Behavior Guidance Policies and other procedures/plans in place when working with children.
16. To prepare weekly, developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
17. To maintain the confidentiality of children, parents, staff, and the program.
18. To ensure that program goals are implemented.
19. To plan and supervise class outings/field trips that are developmentally appropriate.
20. To work cooperatively with families, consultants and others to create individual plans for children when necessary.
21. To work with other staff to create a room arrangement that is inviting, interesting, and conducive to learning, and to update classroom environment regularly.
22. To assist in record keeping for the classroom, including the Food Program.
23. Abide by current Little Treasures’ safety regulations as defined by OSHA, Fire Department, Rule 3, Head Start, and other regulatory agencies.
24. To participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth and to meet minimum training hours for each year.
25. To direct and assist with the daily operations of a classroom, including completing children’s Daily Reports, Accident Reports, diaper changes, minimal food prep, and various cleaning duties.
26. To abide by the legal statutes regarding Mandatory Reporting in situations of abuse.
27. To promote the Little Treasures’ philosophy and mission.

Four year degree, CDA or AA degree - licensed as a teacher according to Rule 3.
Complete a background check as required by licensing rules
Meet minimum training hours for each year as defined by Rule 3
Have the ability to hear the conversational voice with or without a hearing aid, the ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances, the ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds, and the ability to use arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job, including evacuation of the building during emergencies.
Ability to handle crises, problem solve, make judgments or decisions appropriately and quickly as needed to ensure the well-being and safety of clients, staff, and facility.
Ability to work independently and in cooperation with other staff.
An essential understanding of and commitment to the fundamental principles of Little Treasures’ mission and goals.
Employment and daily staffing is subject to enrollment.
Experience tracking and organizing data.
CPR-1st Aid Certified (Infant, Child and Adult) within 90 days of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, walk, shovel snow, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.
